Growing turmeric is something that I love personally, as they are super cool and the fragrance during the time of harvest makes me mesmerizing hahaha! And yes, turmeric holds a special place in our garden & farm all the time.
With its bright yellow roots and earthy aroma, this humble herb connects us deeply to our traditional roots. Known as “Manjal” in Tamil, turmeric has been used for centuries in cooking, healing and skincare.

🌸 Interesting Fact
Turmeric thrives beautifully in our farm’s warm and humid climate. We plant the rhizomes during the early monsoon months, ensuring the soil is rich, loose and well-drained. It takes around 7–9 months to mature, no matter if it exceeds too! Because this year we couldn't harvest them on time, I guess it was about a year (nearly 12 months) we harvested turmeric. It didn't damage our harvest, surprisingly that made our turmeric rhizomes to come out with good size and weight. The leaves start drying and that shows that it’s time for harvest the most exciting moment of the season!
Turmeric is one of Ayurveda’s oldest healing ingredients. It’s known for its powerful anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. In traditional Indian homes, turmeric paste has long been used for cuts and wounds. Very particularly for their glowing skin and even wedding rituals symbolizing purity and protection. Even now we can see this with our grandma's they do use turmeric in their daily routines. Maybe they have tasted the magic of this golden treat so well than us for sure!
Here, I have pined out some of the healing powers of our turmeric;
📌Boosts immunity naturally
📌Aids digestion and liver health📌Reduces inflammation and joint pain
📌Enhances skin tone and fights acne
📌Promotes faster wound healing
As soon as we harvest, generally we can sun-dry and grind, but in our case we used solar dried to maintain same temperature and humidity. Actually it also helped to maintain the colour of turmeric and as you know no dust can enter and solar drier safeguards our turmeric rhizomes from sudden rain, I use to be very much worried about this sudden rain as it was a tough job to be there all the time and check with it, thankfully solar dried relieves me a lot.
Fine! coming back to the processing, once they dried well our own farm-grown turmeric are grained into fine golden powder. Now, they are ready to use. The active compound curcumin gives turmeric its golden color and healing strength but did you know it’s better absorbed by the body when combined with black pepper? That’s why many traditional recipes pair them together! Isn't that cool!😎 Also, giving it a mix in hot milk enhances their ability and gives our immunity 100% guaranteed golden treat.💥
Other that this, we are also planning to bring this turmeric in use with our handmade natural soaps and skin-care products, giving them their beautiful golden hue and earthy scent 100% pure and farm-fresh, just as nature intended. Don't forget to let me know your concern on this regards in the comments below!😊😉
Never the least, we’re super excited to share the journey of our new turmeric plantation in the coming weeks from preparing the soil to watching the first green shoots appear. Stay tuned as we continue our Herbal Series exploring more natural treasures growing in our farm.
