Hello! I'm indeed super excited to welcome you all to another episode on our golden magic TUMERIC💛After a wonderful turmeric harvest last season, we are now getting ready for a fresh beginning for the next season. Yes!! to be frank it is too late since we have harvested our turmeric late in the last season. Any how planting turmeric bulbs is always a special time for us, as it marks the start of another golden journey from soil to spice. Fine without any further delay let us get started💥

🌱 Preparing the Soil

Turmeric loves rich, loose, and well-drained soil. Before planting, we gently till the land to make it soft and airy. We add organic compost and natural manure from our farm to enrich the soil  no chemicals fertilizers, you can just add vermicompost or cow dung if available. Actually there is something unique in using cow dung as they release nourishment or nutrient slow and steady,  providing our turmeric plant get enough manure throughout their growth. Healthy soil is the foundation for healthy turmeric!

🌾 Choosing and Planting the Bulbs

We select healthy mother rhizomes from our previous harvest  plump, disease-free, and full of life. Each rhizome is cut into small pieces, each with at least one bud (eye), and then planted about 5 cm deep in rows. We can either plant them directly in land in as a rows  spaced roughly 30–40 cm apart, giving enough room for the plants to spread and grow strong. Or you can keep those seed bulbs in a small pot or grow bag, as soon as they sprout and grow as a baby samplings you can then shift them to land or in individual pots for them to grow and spread. Since we are late this time, saplings have grown too big right now but that's not an issue. Hope they will get adapted soon😐

☀️ Ideal Conditions for Growth

Turmeric thrives best in warm, humid weather and loves a bit of shade. Regular watering helps the sprouts grow faster, but too much water can cause rot, so we make sure the soil stays moist but not soggy. Within 3–4 weeks, small green shoots begin to appear. Watching those first tender leaves emerge from the soil is such a rewarding sight.

💛 Care and Maintenance

📌Keep the field free from weeds during the early growth stage.

📌Add mulch or dry leaves to retain moisture and prevent soil erosion.

📌Apply organic compost once every few weeks to boost healthy root development.

As months pass, the lush green leaves of turmeric fill the garden, creating a calm, earthy aroma all around a promise of the golden roots growing beneath.

As you can see, controlling weeds is the biggest hurdle in farming. Generally, they use weedicides to control but we don't do that, as our maintain moto is to go chemical free. Removing weeds manually is tough but with regular maintenance we can reduce their growth. Let us talk about various weed controlling mechanism in our upcoming episodes.

🌸 Looking Ahead

In the coming months, we’ll share updates on how our turmeric plants are growing stage by stage till harvest. We’ll also explore how these golden rhizomes turn into our natural products, like herbal soaps and turmeric powder. And let us walk through “The Growth Stages of Turmeric” and  the joy of nurturing nature’s golden treasure. 🌿✨

Until then #stay tuned with GIFTA🕊️SEEDS, if there is any queries feel free to mention them in the comments below.  And yes!! if you feel it's useful don't forget to share it with your friends and families whom you care the most and to people who wish to care for Nature💚
